Happy Holidays Kids and Families!

To my awesome CrossFit kids and families:  This will be my last post until the new year.  Have a safe and wonderful holiday season...remember to keep up with your holiday fitness challenge!  See you in 2011 in the box!

No kids’ classes today either…

We will resume classes on Monday, December 20...try to get outside for some fresh air and sledding...if you cannot, perform situps, pushups and air squats inside...get your family involved!

Coach’s chat…

Sometimes it's the simplest things that keep kids coming back.  We run a boutique gym that focuses on quality at all times.  When the groups get large, we bring in more coaches so that each and every child in our gym receives our fullest attention.  Sure, running around kicking a ball or heading to the batting cage can be a blast!  However, how well can your child really do air squats?  Pushups? (they'd better be chest to deck in our gym!) Pullups?  Lunges?  These are some of the most basic of human movements that kids need to learn at a young age.  These vital skills will transfer over to the playing field, swimming pool, weight room, etc.  Our coaching staff has received top training through CrossFit certifications to bring our expertise back to you!

Due to the snow, no kids’ classes today…stay warm!

Keep up with your Holiday Fitness Challenge and go sledding!

Gymnastics

After attending the CrossFit Gymnastics Certification in Durham, Amy and I are armed and ready to teach lots of gymnastics to the kids and adults.  We learned superior spotting techniques along with scaling of several difficult gymnastic movements.  Here is Kaleb E. getting inverted on the rings.  Have I mentioned lately that it is vital that everyone goes upside down often?

Point those toes, Kaleb!

To the top!

So many kids that  come through our doors immediately eyeball the rope climb.  It is a challenging piece of equipment requiring core and grip strength and a dose of willpower.  The scaling of the rope climb gets kids to the top pretty quickly.  Camden H. worked class after class to get there.  Recently, she made it to the top after telling me that she'd never be able to do it.  She was very proud of herself as was I!  Check it out!

Going up!

Team Workouts…

Each week, we program at least one team workout and they are always a hit!  Last week, we had teams work together to build a free-standing Lego with the pieces that they collected after completing required exercises.  The kids had a blast and each team made totally different Lego models.  It was fascinating to observe how each team completed the challenge using strategy and speed.

Working together...

CrossFit Dodgeball!

You know, this game never gets old - even for the adults!  Take just a regular old game of dodgeball and attach specific exercises to each ball color and you've got yourself a challenging game!  Try not to get hit - especially by the purple ball - or you'll be doing some burpees!

Don't get hit!

Medicine Balls!

We've been having a lot of fun with the Dynamax medicine balls in the kids' classes.  There are countless exercises that you can perform with these...running with them, jumping over them, playing catch, wall ball shots, CrossFit Dominoes, etc.

Partnered ball pass...

Travel Workouts…

If you are traveling with your family for the holidays, remember to take a workout journal with you so that you can track your exercises and nutrition!  I can give you one - several already have their own - or you can grab a blank journal from the dollar store.  So many exercises can be performed without any equipment at all.  Situps, pushups, air squats, lunges, running, jumping, BURPEES!  YAY BURPEES!
