CrossFit Dodgeball!

You know, this game never gets old - even for the adults!  Take just a regular old game of dodgeball and attach specific exercises to each ball color and you've got yourself a challenging game!  Try not to get hit - especially by the purple ball - or you'll be doing some burpees!

Don't get hit!

Medicine Balls!

We've been having a lot of fun with the Dynamax medicine balls in the kids' classes.  There are countless exercises that you can perform with these...running with them, jumping over them, playing catch, wall ball shots, CrossFit Dominoes, etc.

Travel Workouts…

If you are traveling with your family for the holidays, remember to take a workout journal with you so that you can track your exercises and nutrition!  I can give you one - several already have their own - or you can grab a blank journal from the dollar store.  So many exercises can be performed without any equipment at all.  Situps, pushups, air squats, lunges, running, jumping, BURPEES!  YAY BURPEES!

Remember…

...that pesky Halloween candy that you gave me?  You'll being seeing it resurface again soon...we are busily planning our gingerbread masterpiece for this year!  Stay tuned...

BOO is right!  boo to candy...

How’s your challenge going?

Well, kids, how is your challenge going?  Today is Day 15 so,  if you are behind in your exercises, I suggest you get going before they really start adding up!  I got a little behind and had to make mine up yesterday and it was tough!   Keep up the good work!

Strength and Conditioning for High School Athletes

CrossFit Blacksburg will be starting a new Strength and Conditioning Program in January for high school athletes.  CrossFit builds competence in 10 domains of fitness:  power, strength, speed, stamina, accuracy, coordination, flexibility, cardiorespiratory endurance, agility and balance.  The class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm-4:30pm.  You will get strong, learn your way around a barbell quickly and have fun!  This class is ideal for all athletes...contact us if  you are interested!

Enjoy the holiday!

Wishing all of our CrossFit families and kids a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!  No classes today or Friday...classes resume on Monday.  See you all then!

Eats…

Over the next few weeks, we will be bombarded with many unhealthy food choices!  Pies, cookies, cakes and other gluten-heavy foods just aren't good for any of us.  Gluten is a protein found in wheat and when we eat it, our body doesn't understand how to use it.  So, we see reactions like inflammation, stomach aches, etc.

Sugar is also a bad source of nutrition.  We consume sugar and our insulin becomes spiked.  Repeating that process over and over each day takes a real toll on our health.

When you start this holiday season, concentrate on eating protein, veggies, some fruit and nuts.  Stay away from gluten and as much sugar as possible.  You'll feel so much better in the new year!

Next Week’s Schedule

Thanksgiving is right around the corner...we will only have classes on Monday and Tuesday of next week.  Have a wonderful holiday!  Classes will resume the following Monday!

Kids’ Holiday Challenge

On Monday, we started a new challenge for the kids...a 30-day bodyweight exercise challenge.  Each day, your child should perform one more rep of each exercise that they choose.  So, Day 1 = 1 situp/1pushup, Day 2 =  2 situps/2 pushups, etc.  If a day is forgotten, the reps that you missed must be made up the next day.  Let's keep our kids moving throughout the holidays!
