Enjoy the holiday!

Wishing all of our CrossFit families and kids a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!  No classes today or Friday...classes resume on Monday.  See you all then!

Eats…

Over the next few weeks, we will be bombarded with many unhealthy food choices!  Pies, cookies, cakes and other gluten-heavy foods just aren't good for any of us.  Gluten is a protein found in wheat and when we eat it, our body doesn't understand how to use it.  So, we see reactions like inflammation, stomach aches, etc.

Sugar is also a bad source of nutrition.  We consume sugar and our insulin becomes spiked.  Repeating that process over and over each day takes a real toll on our health.

When you start this holiday season, concentrate on eating protein, veggies, some fruit and nuts.  Stay away from gluten and as much sugar as possible.  You'll feel so much better in the new year!

Next Week’s Schedule

Thanksgiving is right around the corner...we will only have classes on Monday and Tuesday of next week.  Have a wonderful holiday!  Classes will resume the following Monday!

Kids’ Holiday Challenge

On Monday, we started a new challenge for the kids...a 30-day bodyweight exercise challenge.  Each day, your child should perform one more rep of each exercise that they choose.  So, Day 1 = 1 situp/1pushup, Day 2 =  2 situps/2 pushups, etc.  If a day is forgotten, the reps that you missed must be made up the next day.  Let's keep our kids moving throughout the holidays!

Thanks…

This Friday night, November 19 from 6:45pm until 8:45pm, we will host an open gym night so that parents can get a little holiday shopping done.  Bring your kids to the gym with a snack and we will have games and a workout for them.  Should be a good time!  Thanks for your support of our program parents!

Time Change!

I have always been a big fan of the Fall time change!  Why?  I get up so much earlier in the morning, work on things that have been on the back-burner and I go to bed much earlier at night.  However, with this time change, please watch yourselves on the road if you are biking or walking!   Our gym is located very close to Country Club Drive and generally, college kids drive too fast as do many adults.  Watch it kids!

Halloween Challenge Survivors’ Cookout

Did you make it through the Halloween Candy Challenge?  Several of you did and we are very proud of you!!   Those candies can be ssssoooo tempting!  Come to my house on Saturday, November 13th fro 3:30pm - 5:30 pm and enjoy burgers, nerf darts, good times and sprints in the back yard.  Next up, our Holiday Fitness Challenge...are you game?

Jackie!

So, we had our Softball ladies work on "Jackie" today...what does that mean, exactly?  Jackie is a workout that entails:  1000m row, 50 thrusters, 30 pullups.  YOUCH!  Rowing that goes on for roughly 5 or 6 minutes at a steady pace can be pretty tough.  Follow that with thrusters and and pullups and you've got yourself an intense workout.  All of the athletes did an outstanding job and Amy and I are proud of their hard work.  Enjoy your weekend ladies - you deserve it!

Lbs. of Junk!

Okay - so at least 15 kids made it through our Halloween Candy Challenge!  I have collected (brace yourselves...) about 20 pounds of candy from just 5 kids!  Other kids from the gym who took part in the challenge have decided how they will use their candy other than eating it or giving it to others to eat.  Great job kids!  Good fun will be had by all at our house for the cookout in a few days!

Good Times!

So, we had a great time at our kids' Halloween day at the gym last Friday!  Some open gym time and games along with some accuracy skills...thanks to all of the kids who came in costume!  Let's see how that Halloween Candy Challenge shakes out!  (My photo uploader is giving me problems...more photos soon!)
