Cherry picking?
Some people check what the workout is before they come - other like the surprise when they walk in. If you check before you come - does it alter your plans if it's looks too hard, or is something you're not as strong at? In other words - do you cherry pick your workouts?
Dealing with an injury is one thing - we can always make a substitution when necessary. Other than that - just come in and work hard! Ask the people that did the Air Force WOD yesterday. More than one person said before the workout they were nervous. And at the end - they all felt an incredible sense of accomplishment. Your workouts should make you anxious! Think of it more as a heightened sense of arousal - all of your senses working overtime. And once you're there, you will be fully engaged in the workout, which is exactly where we want you! And if you think the workout doesn't play to your strengths - well that's all the more reason to come in and work on it.
So don't be surprised one day to see a post of something like 3 rounds of 10 Jumping jacks, 5 squats, 2 situps - at your own pace. Chances are we'll greet you with something different when you walk in.
So don't cherry pick your workout - tomorrow's could be harder!

I really like the idea of having surprise workouts. I tend to check the workout if I get on the computer before I come to workout, for mainly two reasons. It really helps me to mentally prepare for what I have to do. Much like a sporting event, there’s a certain mindset that comes with running, lifting, the total, etc. Also, what I may or may not eat/drink could come into play. Of course, there’s the very practical reason of whether or not I need to bring shoes (for sprints or double unders.)
I’d put not coming because a workout sounds to hard in the same category as not trying as hard as you can once in the box. Using lower weights for fear of failure or a longer time for the workout. In the end we all do need to know our limitations, but the ability to push ourselves to the absolute limit is, for me, what crossfit is all about.

sometimes I wish I wouldn’t have checked the website, but I always go anyway…sometimes it is good to know in advance that you are still going to be sweating at your 10:30 meeting after your 6:00am workout - that way you can pack a towel in your briefcase. Most of us who CrossFit are trying to better ourselves, live longer, look and feel better, increase our work capacity, etc…most of our desired results come from spending heart pounding seconds and minutes at the edges of our comfort zone…push harder, add more weight than last time, do a WOD that scares the living crap out of you, try to accomplish something you have never done before. Eat, sleep and do it again.
Fun WOD today - thanks for joining me, Neil…
3:44 as RX, crushed the double unders…and pushed through the burpees. Yeah, burpees!
