Bryce’s Jalapeno Burgers…

60 Day Challenge - Day 53

Yoga Dude gave us this recipe over the holidays - these burgers are outstanding and easy to make!  Tweak the recipe to suit your tastes.

Jalapeno Burgers:

1 lb.  ground beef
1 lb. ground pork
4 small jalapenos, seeded and chopped finely
1 shallot, chopped
2 or 3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tsp. cumin
2 tsp. chili powder
Salt/pepper to taste

Cooked strips of bacon for a topper

Head of purple cabbage - peel off large leaves and steam - these are the "buns" for the burgers.

Mix all of the ingredients together and form burgers.  We grilled ours but you could cook them on the stovetop.  I also mixed up a green salad with balsamic vinegar and put the salad on top of the burgers...delicious!

Yep - that is bacon on top!

  • I have to say that was one of, if not the best burger ever…thanks, Yoga Dude.

Great post on marksdailyapple.com today about inflammation.

  • Sounds slightly delicious.  Little avocado on top too maybe..MMMMM.

Helen: 12:16, WAY off my PR.  But it was the first time I’d run in over a month, and I’m still getting used to Whole30.  And it was cold.  Sorry, I’d have some cheese with my whine if it wasn’t outlawed in my diet…

  • Hmm.  Helen.  I was not impressed/proud of my time today: 17:07.  I don’t know why, but I feel like maybe I just wasn’t feeling it?  It just didn’t feel like a “good” workout.  I felt struggling the whole time.  Maybe if I had used a 20lb bell instead of the 35 I would have felt better, but I Rx’d the KB.  However, I did feel a lot more efficient with PU’s today, even though I used less band help than I did the last time we did PU’s.

Oh my how I love a tasty burger.  I like Daron’s suggestion of avocado.  In my opinion, bacon & avocado make just about everything better.

  • I am never opposed to avocado - avocado+bacon=perfection!  Kinsey - Helen will do that to you so don’t focus on it too much - there’s always another WOD waiting in the wings that you’ll rock!

  • Note the existence of bacon-wrapped avocado (which, sadly, I have not sampled yet) as a meal/snack option!

  • The problem with Helen is the 3rd round…if it were just 2 rounds it would be much better…and if it were just 1 round I could crush it…and whine is paleo as far as I’m concerned…

  • Ow. 13:04- completely modified Helen (as if she’s needs plastic surgery) thanks to my horrendously busted up leg. Still, rowed, blue band, 35# and very few tears.

  • Avocado is like nature’s butter.  I heard somewhere that there is a bacon of the month club.  That warrants further investigation.

  • Helen highly modified based on a plethora of (all on the mend) injuries…

3 rnds: 30 double unders/12 KBS 1.5 pd/6 pullup - 6:02, not so impressive with the double unders

Josh - great work! a very respectable time for this WOD!
those last pullups seem like they take forever and I witnessed a few instances of over 2 min to finish the last round of pullups tonight…
that is a tough workout and hard to make easier or faster once RX
great job everyone in the 5:30 class tonight and all the new faces…keep it up!

  • Thanks B-vo,
    What injuries did Xmas cause?
    Cheers
