The CrossFit Games start today! For those of you that don't know about the Games, it is an international competition to determine the fittest athletes in the World. There are two separate qualifying rounds to get to the finals, and our own John Steger made it to the second round this year. There is also a separate team competition, and we are planning to have a team compete next year!
The first event is at 10pm our time tonight, and you can watch it live here. CrossFit will be streaming the games all weekend, so check in regularly - it will be fun to watch! We will be watching the games on Saturday at the box starting at noon. We'll have the grill going, so stop and reach in to the freezer or stop at Kroger and let's eat! Or if you want to bring your favorite macaroni salad....
Stop in for an hour, or for the afternoon - we promise there won't be any burpees! And start the day off right with a special 9am birthday WOD! Whose birthday is it, by the way? And what year? Or is it two birthdays we're celebrating this weekend? They will both be there Saturday morning...it should be a fun day all around. Bring a friend and spend the day with some fellow CrossFitters!

That's a lot of stall matting!

In case you haven't noticed, we have 3 great groups of CrossFit Kids running around the box! From the Pup's on up to the Porch & the Pack, all of the different age groups are thriving and working hard! At the end of each of the workouts, there's always a game. And the most popular game, of course, is Dodgeball!! Even among the "older kids" - yes that's you - everyone loves dodgeball!!
We know a few of you out there have embarked on your own Paleo Challenge - and Erin & Martha are right there with you! The girls have had a Sunday tradition of pancakes - and now they want Paleo Pancakes! Here are couple recipes to choose from:
Coconut:
4 eggs
1/4 cup coconut flour
1/4 cup coconut milk
1/4 cup unsweetened coconut flake
1 Tbsp honey
mix & cook over med heat
Almond:
2 eggs
1/2 cup almond meal
1/2 cup coconit milk
1 apple chopped
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
Blend in blender until smooth. Add blueberries or other fruit. Cook over med heat with coconut oil. Can be difficult to flip.
Let us know what you think!

Everybody loves CrossFit Dodgeball!!

Rain - So was it luck with all the rain over the last two days - we didn't have any running in the program! Today is supposed to be sunny and warm - and there's a run involved! Or is it because we are honoring a true American Hero today that the sun is supposed to shine?

Swing this!

As we talked about yesterday, we constantly compare ourselves to our fellow CrossFit Competitors. We have the accomplishment board, the WOD board, and people post their results online here. Nobody is trying to make anyone else feel bad about their score, but it gives us a target and framework to work in. And besides a little good-natured needling among friends is fun!
So, how do we stack up against the competitors at this years CrossFit Games? Here is a compilation of the "average" games competitor's stats. Ready to try and qualify next year?
Remeber, we are planning to get together on Saturday - probably afternooon into evening, to watch some of the Games, get together for some refreshing beverages, and have a birthday party as well. Does anyone have a screen we can borrow for the afternoon? Otherwise we'll go with the white sheet....

Is anyone else following the Tour de France this year? Lance isn't leading - yet - but is it something you are interested in? How about the World Cup? Did Spain's 1-0 win over The Dutch yesterday excite you at all? Or are you ready for Football - American style?
What about CrossFit as a sport? We score every workout - and we know you're checking what others are doing on the WOD. Seems like the more you come in, the more competition you feel with others - even if you aren't working together. Then there's the CrossFit Games coming up this weekend. This stuff really is a competition! It's one of the reasons I enjoy the Team WODs we do. All of a sudden - it's not just you - you've got to push even harder for your teammate! I've seen people do a 400M run much faster as part of a team WOD - right Jose?!
We are all competitive to some degree - some more than others. Does CrossFit satisfy your desire to "win", or are you competing at other things as well? CrossFit encourages you to regularly play and learn new sports - keep your body moving in new ways. So come in and play - and then go out and play!

The CrossFit Games start one week from today! While we don't have any participants this year, we're going to use it as motivation for the Affilaite Team we're going to enter next year - and for any individuals planning on competing.
The format has been changed up a bit this year. The first event is Friday, 7PM PST. And the workout won't be announced until one hour before the start! The rest of the weekend will follow a similar structure - the competitors won't know how many events there are, or what they're going to be. Should be interesting!
And new for this year - live streaming of all the events! Any interest in a viewing party? We'll see if we can rig up some sort of big screen at the Box. And that Saturday is my birthday - good food, liquid grains, fellow CrossFitters, and some good competition to watch - sounds like a party to me! We might even turn the AC on...

Nothing like a teammate cheering you on - Kelly & Andrea rocked the Kalsu WOD - Thrusters & Burpees!

Erin and Martha started their own Paleo Challenge Monday - well, no grain challenge. Breakfast will be, and has been, one of the biggest challenges for all of us. We've done eggs with sausage or bacon, fruit and bacon, sweet potato and bacon (see a trend?), and we're starting to look for other options. Cereal has always been a popular choice, but it's full of junk, and grains!
This evening we made some granola. This isn't your typical oat-based granola. It's nut-only granola, and we've taken the recipe from CrossFit Invictus. The girls are psyched for breakfast. They're planning granola and whole fat yogurt. We'll let you know how it goes.
-
5 cups nuts and seeds (I used slivered almonds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, pecans, and sunflower seeds; you can use whatever you want, but make sure you use at least 2 – 3 cups slivered almonds, as these take the place of what is normally oats)
-
1/3 cup honey (or maple syrup or any other Paleo-approved sweetener)
-
1/3 cup Paleo-friendly oil (I used coconut and highly recommend it)
-
2 tsp vanilla
-
1 tsp cinnamon
-
1 tsp nutmeg
-
1 cup raisins
-
1 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
So, if a 7 and 5 year-old can cut out the grains, what's stopping you? Is it easy? Well, the girls aren't whining yet. When would you start whining?

One of our first members and fire breather, Justin, moved on yesterday. Justin joined us during the Winter of '09, and has overcome some injuries along the way to become a phenomenal athlete.
Please send your prayers Justin's way - he will be protecting us all very soon! God's Speed Justin!
On another note, Neil's uncle Bill Bell died last night. He was a decorated Korean War Marine Corps veteran. He's in a better place, but please keep in mind his wife Margie and their family.
We'll miss you Justin!....come and see us Meredith!

Wow - what an effort by everyone that came in on Monday. Team workout - 100 thrusters with 5 burpees every minute! Don't be too surprised to see this come up again so everybody can experience the love!!
We hope everyone had a great weekend - good food, good beverages (liquid grains?) fireworks - and most importantly good company!
Now that Summer is really in full swing - are there any goals you are shooting for? It's time to reset the goal board in the box - so think about it, and put it down. If we can all help push you towards your goal - you're more likely to achieve it!

What do you mean it's my turn next?!
